Regrow Your Teeth!

September 23, 2021

Yes, you read that correctly. We often hear about medical research and studies related to the mind and body, but we often don’t hear about research studies directly related to teeth. Scientists have been working on ways to regrow teeth, essentially stimulate them to repair themselves. Someday in the future, this could mean no more fillings, root canals and crowns according to (link below).

Here are a few highlights:

– Some research suggests that stem cells can be stimulated by drugs to regrow dentin in teeth.

– Lasers are being tested at the University of Buffalo. They are using low-power laser light to stimulate tooth regeneration. Lasers stimulate the stem cells and they produce new dentin. Stem cells are cells that can differentiate into other types of cells. Dentin is the hard, dense boney tissue under the enamel of your teeth.

– Some scientists also like the idea of regrowing an entire tooth, however, this is far from a reality at this point in time. Sounds like mad scientist stuff!
